The species is frosthart to betwin -10 and -15C. However, it is extreamly sensitive to winter moisture, also air humidity and most plants are lost to that and the cold. Also, if the plant is not proper dormant before the frost, it will certainly die. M. lutea and one of the undescribed yellow specie...

I also have it from a location in Orange free State where it regulary freezes -10C. I have maintained the species for 3/4 of my life.... Mar...

Is this the same plant?
Many delosperma species are viable if you take the time to sow their seeds. This is naturel. However, for a magenta coloured plant the variation would range within pink and white - never yellow.

the first plant looks jusk like one of the opuntioids on Mt Arabia in georgia. FH collected seeds there once and the plants I have are similar to yours. To the best of my knowledge they are not humifusa at all.

Any hybrid with fragilis is interesting for our climate.

Check this old hybrid in my collection. George Sydow:

Your yellow flowered species is in fact a true O fragilis. Your Red cultivar is not, at least not a pure fragilis as true fragilis is always yellow, or yellow with a red center.
Maybe fragilis x polyacantha ssp. ?

Humifusa is always yellow or yellow with a red center.

Well, I dont think it could go unprotected outside. However, if you have an unheated greenhouse why not try with a cutting? This species grow fast.
Here you see it growing with hardy opuntioids and texas wildflowers:

Btw A striatula is one of the most hardy Aloes. I have keep mine in 4 years outside in the unheated greenhouse. It has easily survived -15C and being frosted for one month.

The past two winters have given even milder climate in Denmark. With a minimum of -8C the past winter and almost no snow, Lewisias have germinated anyway. However, there are differences betwin the species of how much cold they need. L rediviva can easily be sown in February while other species needs...

Why all these problems with sowing Lewisias? I use to sow them in the fall under cover outside. In February they are exposed to all the snow and rain they can get here and end February/early March they germinate. Some are slow germinators and will first germinate after two whole winters. But it work...
